| Nanomachine makes lasers pushy | | Posted Sunday, February 04, 2007 3:04:42 PM by Blog57 Team | | Scientists at the University of Edinburgh have created a nanomachine which can ensnare molecules as they move and could potentially lead to lasers moving objects remotely. The light-powered machine has a device inside it that traps molecule-sized particles as they move in a certain direction under their natural motion. Once the molecules are caught they cannot escape. Applications of the nanotechnology machine could include trapping molecules to generate a force in front of a solid object using a laser pen. By shining the pen in the direction you want the object to move, the force of the molecules could be harnessed to push the object along. The invention of the nanotechnology machine builds on previous work at the university in which scientists were able to move a droplet of liquid up a slope using molecular force.... | |

| | | Clients line up for Triple Crown of no-surgery frills | | Posted Tuesday, November 14, 2006 11:10:23 PM by Blog57 Team | | Lasers, chemical peels, injections. Rose Underwood has sampled just about everything on the nonsurgical buffet to look a few years younger. Recently, she tried something that hasn't even hit the market: Juvederm, an injection that promises to fill even deep wrinkles and plump up sunken skin. "I've done it all," Underwood said after reeling off a list of all the procedures she's tried. "We're all vain. We love the compliments we get." Underwood, 62, is not alone. Nashville, Tenn., with its music celebrities and medical complexes, has become something of a mecca for cosmetic procedures, doctors say. "It's bigger here in Nashville than in cities of comparable size because of the entertainment industry," says Dr. Brian Biesman of Nashville Centre for Laser and Facial Surgery.... | |

| | | Lost Planet: Extreme Condition ( First Impressions ) | | Posted Monday, November 13, 2006 11:42:01 AM by Blog57 Team | | That's roughly what happens in the boring cut-scene that sets the stage for Lost Planet, but things quickly improve. For instance, you're immediately being chased through an abandoned city by a gigantic beetle monster thing that smashes through skyscrapers in an attempt to spawn a glacier and drop it on your head. Imagine the Bantha from Return of the Jedi but ten times bigger with the ability to spit massive rods of killer ice. This bit of the game's immediately brutal, giving you just enough room to stay ahead as you run down side streets glancing back over your shoulder in alarm, before climbing up a staircase and running along gangways that cut through the skyline, your eyes permanently fixed to the king of the cockroaches razing the city below you. It concludes as you don your first Vital Suit, along with dad, and jump back to ground to face it.... | |

| | | Face Risks: An I-Team 8 Special Investigation | | Posted Sunday, November 12, 2006 1:39:02 PM by Blog57 Team | | Dropping in for a manicure and getting a laser treatment is the newest trend in spas, but you also face risks. Laser treatments are touted for doing a lot, like giving you smooth skin or ridding unwanted hair. "Pigment variation, the number one reason that brings women into my office," said Dr. Greg Chernoff, a plastic surgeon. "We call those age spots," Karen said. "Yes," laughs Dr. Chernoff. Medical spas, called plastic surgery light, are an $11 billion a year industry. And I-Team 8 finds almost anyone can get certified to operate the laser for laser treatments. Some spa technicians have as little as one hour of training. "He does the main removal because we're not really that good, you know what I mean? We haven't practiced that at all," said a spa employee.... | |
